Hollybank House has been in the care of Ailtireacht twice over the last two decades. Originally a country house on the rural outskirts of Dublin; the building had been subdivided, extensively tinkered with, and hemmed in since its construction in the 19th century.

Ailtireacht’s interventions have sought to return the house to its original format by conserving and reinstating historical spaces, decorative plasterwork and joinery. The original front door of the house has been revealed, and has conceptually become the focal point of the design. An existing but non-original extension has been recast as a dedicated kitchen and dining area for family living around a central hearth. The extension is now wrapped in sculptural composition of masonry and glass to provide ‘modern’ links to the garden beyond.
